Introducing the Thera-Clean Microbubble Treatment!

We are excited to be the proud owners of Asheville’s only Thera-Clean Microbubbler System! This incredible machine uses microscopic bubbles to thoroughly deep-clean skin, including inside pores and hair follicles. As a result, dogs who have chronic skin conditions that haven’t been treatable in the past now have an all-natural option for getting problem skin under control.

Microbubble technology originated in Japan, where it is used by many veterinary hospitals as well as groomers. Veterinarian James Zarowny and Thera-Clean president Kyle Darling traveled to Japan to research this technology, and introduced it in North America in 2012. The Thera-Clean website describes microbubbles this way:

"Less than 100 micrometers across, a microbubble is slightly wider than a human hair (70 micrometers). A typical human red blood cell is about 8 micrometers; most bacteria are between 3 and 40 micrometers. The Thera-Clean® System – using simple tap water — uniformly generates Microbubbles that range from 3 to 20 micrometers. This allows our Microbubbles to penetrate hair follicles and pores – but not pass through the epidermis, or skin surface – to deep clean.”

Dirt, debris, dander, allergens, and even shampoo residue can build up under a dog’s hair follicles, causing bacteria and yeast to multiply. The dog’s sebaceous glands respond by producing excess sebum, which crusts over at the base of the hair follicle and creates spots that itch and irritate the skin. During a Thera-Clean bath, the microbubbles penetrate these itchy spots and “scrub” out the built-up residue and bacteria.

Unlike pressure-washing systems which require shampoo, the Thera-Clean system uses only gentle, non-pressurized pure water. The microbubbles do all the work. They carry a negative ionic charge, which binds to positively-charged organic matter in the skin and lifts it out. The microbubbles then collapse in the water, leaving the dirt and debris behind. A microbubble bath takes about fifteen minutes from start to finish.

This treatment is excellent for oily, smelly, sensitive, or irritated skin. Once the pores and follicles are clean, medications and other treatments can work more effectively “in” the skin rather than just “on” the skin. Microbubble therapy has been shown to effectively treat demodectic mange, which is caused by an infestation of tiny mites that burrow under the hair follicle and, in severe cases, can cause hair loss. A microbubble bath is even therapeutic for ear infections, as it removes debris and pathogens from the ears.

With every microbubble treatment at Pawsitivity, we are using Thera-Clean’s proprietary Toji enzyme powders. These plant- and mineral-based enzymes help to soften and loosen flaky skin and oils, so that the microbubbles can dislodge and carry them away more easily. Non-irritating and non-toxic, the enzymes also help reduce inflammation in the skin and promote healing.

Microbubble treatment deep-cleans and improves skin, hair follicles, and pores, leading to healthier skin and happier pets! We are thrilled to begin offering this effective spa therapy for our pet clients.
